True confessions: When I design digital scrapbook papers, I design them for the standard 12in x 12in. The truth is, I don't print them off as 12x12 pages or use Shutterfly to make my books.
I use Blurb. Have you heard of it yet? Aside from the fact that is WAY cheaper than Snapfish and Shutterfly, beginners and pros can use Blurb to make fantastic photo books. If you're not a digital scrapbooker and just want your digital pictures in a book, then no worries. If you're a little more creative and like to work on pairing color schemes and fonts, you'll be happy to know you choose custom colors and use your own fonts. If you're a pro, then the sky's the limit. You can check out my books here.
Right now Blurb has an 8x10 book and then a larger "coffee table" size at 13x11 (they also have a 7x7 and 5x8 Black & White Text book). I've been modifying my papers to fit the 8x10 and 13x11 books. All this work has made me wonder how many people actually use the 12x12 size. With that in mind, I've made some edging brushes, so you can add that little extra something to your own specially designed pages.
DOWNLOAD the grugy edge brushes. When you download, would you leave a comment and let me know if you stick with the 12x12 or if you venture to different sizes? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this Freebie. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in Creative Busy Hands Scrapbook Freebies Search List, under the Photoshop/Gimp Resource(s) (Brush(es), Swatch/Palette, ...) post on May. 10, 2009. Thanks again.
Hi, Erin,
First of all, thank you for these brushes. I needed something like that. Cool!
When I am only going to be viewing a layout online, the 12x12 is what I use. When I prepare something to print is when I have to adjust the layout for the paper I have. I don't happen to have any 12x12 paper, so, I adjust the layout to the 8.5x11 size, which I usually do have.
So, basically, for all applications other than viewing online, I don't use the 12zx12.
Hope this helps you. It has given me something to think about. Thanks, again.
Su
Thanks for the cool brush set. I use 12x12 but also smaller sizes for mini books/gifts.
Hi Erin,
Thank you so much for these brushes. I never, ever use 12x12. It is way too expensive to print! I use 8x10 for my digital photo frame and 5x7 or 4x6 if I want to print them. I find this very cheap to do. I am interested in what you say about Blurb and am going to look into that. Thank you for your generousity with design and information.

Erin,
Just discovered your site through the Creative Busy Hands search site ... and what a FIND you are! I've enjoyed scrolling through your photographs (AWESOME! and I don't use that word lightly) and had to download your free gifts for digital scrapbooking as well (amazing). Very busy lady, and and inspiration as well. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.

Thank you for these great brushes. I use mostly 12x12 but I also make 6x6 and 9x9 albums. Just depends on what I'm working on.
Su - thanks for dropping in and for sharing. So you do the printing at home? That must get pretty costly?
Amber - you're welcome. Thanks for letting me know what you use in your scrapbooking. I LOVE your blog background - it's beautiful!
Jennymary - Definitely check into Blurb! They do ship to Australia. Here's the thing - if you made an 8x10 paper back book, each page (I've factored in shipping too) would cost approximately $0.75. It's cheaper to make the book through them than it is to print the pages at Walgreens, Costco, etc!
Melberry - you are too kind! I've enjoyed checking out your blog as well - I'm a sucker for word art :D. Please come back!
DigiFree & Creative Hands - thanks for posting!
Up until dec 31, 2008, i used 8.5x11 and viovio.com printed my books for me. Starting Jan 1, I went to 12x12 and viovio.com will still print my books for me. i love their work. I get softbacks for little books-kids softball, swim team, and hard backs for the year.

hey , just to say that viewing is ok in 12x12 but NEVER for printing , way too expensive : prints are made in 4 R , 5 R and maybe 8 R .. hence the big advantage from having elements to make any size layout compared to fix size QP , etc...
Thanks for brushes :-) !
Thank you big time from Boston!! I tend to use 12x12 in my layouts but have been known to than resize to 8x8 for easy printing....
Thanks for these. They will come in handy as I make my pages in...my American Greetings card shop. (Does an awesome job for me!) All my pages are standard 8.5"x11". Love your site. Beautiful things here...
Thank you so much for the grunge brushes. I also tend to work from 12x12 sizes. I appreciate the information about Blurb...I'm going to check it out.
Thank you!! I've been trying to find something like these! thanks for sharing. I never used 12x12. Juz standard size.
Thank you so much for the grunge brushes. I also tend to work from 12x12 sizes. I can print out a 12x12 page on my printer.

I'm a 12x12 girl, and I have them printed by a company and put them in albums. It's getting expensive, so I thought when I print out my 365 album, I'd do it 8x8. Thanks!
First time at your blog and would like to thank you for the awesome looking brushes. I use 12x12 and am excited to download and give them a try.
Thanks for the brushes! I usually scrap in 8.5x11...but for special projects, I've used many other sizes.
Hi, Erin! Thanks for the brushes! I use all different sizes for my stuff from ATC to 12x12 .. also 8x10, 8.5x11 -- round clock faces, etc. Thanks for asking.
Finally, I find another blurb fan! I've done ten books with them...they are cheap, the colors print beautifully and you can make the book as big (or small) as you like.
I design the book using all my scrapbooking goodies and then load the pages in as "just pictures". I'm an expert at resizing everything to 12.6x10.9 at300dpi...if I knew how to make an action, I would make an action for that.
Send me a link to your book on blurb! bneckels@grandecom.net
PS, thanks for the brushes!
I got so excited on my last comment (I don't see it posted, maybe you have to approve?) that I didn't see the link to your blurb books. They are great. Here is a link to mine...

hope it works. If you didn't get the other post, my email is bneckels@grandecom.net
I design for 12x12, but I print my layouts out at 8x8. I know when I am ready to pass them out to my boys when i am a little old lady, I can just pull out each layout and give it to the child it is about...
Love these brushes. Thanks so much:)

I love Blurb books, too, but their customer service leaves a little to be desired. LOL! I use them a lot. Have you tried Millers Lab? Their softcover sqaure books are great. My new favorite is their 3x3 mini accordian albums.
I'm still trying to figure out how you have time to do all you do and still fit in freebies. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
